Strings:
In a simple string the following special characters should be provided with a prefixed '\' (backslash) to mark them as a regular character: '$', '^', '*', '[', ']', '|', '(', ')', '!', '\', ';', ',', '#', '<', '>', '+', '-', '.'.
Umlauts can be entered in TeX notation ("a for ä, "s for ß, etc.)
Boolean expressions:
Strings can be connected by the following separation symbols:
  • ';' for a conjunction on line level
  • ',' for a disjunction on line level
  • '+' for a conjunction on document level
  • ',' for a disjunction on document level
Regular expressions:
according to the egrep-syntax
agrep (from the glimpse package) serves as the search engine. agrep is an extension to the standard UNIX tool egrep that can provide successful search results even for imprecise queries.
Along with parameters for differentiating upper and lower case and exclusively considering complete words (word fragments are included by default), the degree of precision of a search expression can be specified. The deviation from the search pattern of the found word is determined by the amount of insertions, deletions or replacements where each operator is assigned the wheight 1. It must be included in the integer interval between 0 (exact match) and 8 (maximum deviation).
